Al-Anon Group in English

Open meetings in English

The English speaking Al-Anon group was started in May 2011. It has 2 meetings in Reykjavik, both located in the AA House (the little yellow house) at Tjarnargata 20 in downtown Reykjavik.

Meeting times:
Mondays 7:30 to 8:30 P.M.
Fridays  7:30 to 8:30 P.M.

The meetings are open to all who want to experience and enjoy the recovery offered by the Al-Anon Program of Recovery.

Come visit us and pass this information around to friends and neighbours you think would benefit from sharing and recovering with others who speak English.

Alateen's Purpose

Alateen is part of Al-Anon, which helps families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members. Our program of recovery is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based upon the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and the Twelve Concepts of Service. The only requirement of membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend. Al-Anon/Alateen is not affiliated with any other organization or outside entity.

Is Alateen for You?

Is someone's drinking bothering you? Then Alateen is for you. Alateen is for young people whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking. The following 20 questions are to help you decide whether Alateen is for you.  There is further information here at the website of Alateen in USA: http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/alateen.html and other Alateen sites.

Unfortunately there are no english speaking Alateen meetings in Iceland.  If you are interested in Alateen literature, you can contact the General Service Office by email, al-anon@al-anon.is. You can also visit the Literture Store on the WSO website, see link above.

There is an Icelandic speaking meeting once a week where you are of course welcome.
